Village
Because of its altitude and location Avoriaz is the centre of the Portes du Soleil. It is situated at 1800 meters altitude and often has very good snow conditions.
It's a modern built resort and because it’s car free, it has a special atmosphere. Especially in the evening when the lights in the trees go on and the shops are still open.
As the days get longer, the sun shines wonderfully long. Characteristic of the Portes du Soleil is the friendly and relaxed atmosphere of the French-Swiss villages. Avoriaz itself is also known to have very child friendly character!
Ski region
From this highest village you take wonderful day trips in the Portes du Soleil. The gates of the sun, with its 650 km of slopes, give access to one of the largest ski areas in the world.
The uniqueness of this area is that you can cross the border on skis or board as the area is both in France and in Switzerland. The 200 modern lifts ensure swift transportation to all corners of the area. The blue slopes are ideal for beginners while advanced daredevils can meet a challenge with La Mure, perhaps the steepest slopes in the world! Also boarders come to Les Portes du Soleil to push their limits. Especially for the cracks, there are many fun parks.
